MnDOT temporarily closing access from northbound I-35W into downtown

With the Super Bowl approaching, MnDOT is working to get the MnPASS lane reopened on northbound I-35W from 26th Street into downtown Minneapolis.

As crews work to get the MnPASS lane back open, MnDOT needs to move the concrete barriers and restripe the lanes. This is going to require a full closure of the access road from northbound I-35W into downtown to 5th Avenue S/E. Grant Street beginning 10 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 17 until 5 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 18. The access into downtown will reopen for morning rush hour Thursday, Jan. 18. It will close again that same day from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

In addition, the ramp from northbound I-35W to westbound I-94 will close during this work. Motorists should follow the posted detours.

Once the MnPASS lane is open, it will remain open through the construction season; however, motorist should anticipate some periodic lane closures as work continues on the 35W@94 project.
