To accommodate traffic for the upcoming Super Bowl road closures near U.S. Bank Stadium, MnDOT is working with the City to make some modifications at the intersection of 13th Avenue South and 7th Street in downtown. To complete this work, 13th Avenue South between Sixth and Eighth streets will be closed to through traffic beginning today for approximately one and a half weeks.
MnDOT will be removing the curb to widen 13th Avenue South, and the City will be changing the traffic signals at the intersection. By making these changes, traffic will be able to access the ramp to eastbound I-94 using Eighth Street and 13th Avenue once Sixth Street closes for the Super Bowl.
Nighttime closure into downtown from northbound I-35W
MnDOT is also beginning to do restoration work on the Franklin Avenue bridge piers. To do this work, MnDOT is planning a nighttime closure of the access road from northbound I-35W into downtown to Fifth Avenue South/East Grant Street on Thursday, Jan. 11 from midnight to 5 a.m. The ramp from northbound I-35W to westbound I-94 will also be closed during this work. Motorists should follow the posted detour.
In addition to the night work, MnDOT will be paving in this same area next week, weather permitting. To do this safely, there will be a lane closure from northbound I-35W into downtown from 9 a.m. through 3 p.m. for several days.
