Ramp closures begin as part of 35W@94: Downtown to Crosstown project

As part of the first phase of MnDOT’s 35W@94: Downtown to Crosstown project, the Fifth Avenue South ramps to northbound I-35W and eastbound I-94 close beginning today.

The block of Fifth Avenue South between Franklin Avenue and East 19th Street will also close as crews begin pavement removal, tree and brush clearing and utility work.

The ramp to eastbound I-94 is anticipated to reopen in 2018. The ramp to northbound I-35W will remain closed through 2021.

During the Fifth Avenue South closure, parking will not be allowed on Fifth Avenue South or on the north end of the East 19th Street/Portland Avenue alley.

Weekend and night work is anticipated during the Fifth Avenue South closure. Crews will do their best to limit disruptions; however, please anticipate some lights, noise, vibration and truck hauling to occur at any time.

Beginning mid- to late-September, the Portland Avenue bridge over I-94 and the Franklin Avenue bridge over I-35W will close as crews start reconstructing the bridges.
