The project team working on renovating Peavey Plaza at 12th Street South & Nicollet Mall will kick off stakeholder progress meetings Wednesday, Feb. 22, 4-5 p.m. at Orchestra Hall.
Minneapolis-based landscape architecture firm Coen+Partners with Preservation Design Works will focus on revitalizing the plaza while preserving its historic assets. Work will include improvements to the fountains and reflecting basin, concrete repairs, utility upgrades and making the plaza accessible to people with disabilities. The goal is to complete construction by the end of 2018.
The stakeholder progress meetings will be held in Orchestra Hall’s Green Room. Following the first meeting Feb. 22, there will be additional meetings March 22, 4:30-5:30 p.m., and April 19, 4-5 p.m.
After schematic design for a revitalized Peavey Plaza is complete in April, there will be additional stakeholder meetings every two to three months until a detailed design is completed in early fall. The meetings are a chance for people to get project updates and provide feedback.
Peavey Plaza was built in 1974 and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2012. The revitalization plans for Peavey Plaza comes as Nicollet Mall is undergoing a major transformation on track for substantial completion by the end of 2017.
